Prez Sez More members = more grant dollars = more impact |
The final push for new and renewing members is underway as the April 30 deadline approaches for membership gifts to be included in the 2012 grantmaking pool.
The need is clear. Our focus this year is on mental health services for women and girls. We’ve heard in our Stronger Voices…Better Lives research and at the education program on mental health how critical such help is for getting lives on track -- and how scarce the services are. The more members we have, the more dollars will be available to fund proposals now being reviewed by our Grants committee.
At our Stronger Voices program last month, many of the wishes recorded were for increasing our membership significantly – over time doubling, tripling! – so that we have more resources to address the many needs identified.
The great news is that we’ve already passed the 2011 membership mark of 235. As of April 13, we have 249 members, including 39 first-time members. A record seven members have returned to WGA after a hiatus of a year or more.
So here’s the pitch: We have plenty of time to do even better. A number of first-time and renewing members have told us they will be “in” by April 30. If you’re one of the latter, please act today by clicking one of the following links: you can make your gift online or download the commitment form, print it, fill it out and mail it in with your check.
And if you have a prospect who needs a reminder about the April 30 deadline, now’s the time! Consider delivering a commitment form and stamped envelope. If you need additional materials to share with potential members, contact Jeneen Sanders (jsanders@jaxcf.org).
Remember: More Members = More Grant Dollars = More Impact on the Lives of Women and Girls.
Renew and recruit! Then come welcome new members at Strictly Social on April 30 – appropriately timed to celebrate the culmination of the membership drive.

Advocacy workshop The power of 1 |
The Advocacy team has developed a workshop and a toolkit to help WGA members learn more about advocating effectively on their own for the issues they feel strongly about. The workshop is interactive, informative, practical and fun. And it’s an important part of WGA’s mission to encourage strategic philanthropy.
The first workshop takes place May 14 at the beach. It will be presented again in November in town (date and location to be announced in the fall). This photo is from last November's education program on advocacy.
- What: The Power of 1 – Personal advocacy using the WGA toolkit
- When: Monday, May 14, 11:30 a.m. - 1 p.m.
- Where: Palms Presbyterian Church, 3410 Third Street South, Jacksonville Beach 32250

| Facebook reminder |
WGA has joined the social media revolution and launched a Facebook page. “Like” us at www.facebook.com/womensgivingalliance. It's another way to help members communicate, stay up-to-date on news, events and activities, as well as spread the word beyond our own membership about the important work we are doing.

In the media Stronger Voices amplified |
WGA’s study on the status and needs of women and girls – Stronger Voices…Better Lives: Moving women and girls forward -- continues to attract community attention. To read the March 21 story in the Financial News and Daily Record, click here.
A story also has appeared in the Jacksonville Jewish News (not available online). These are in addition to the front-page story and editorial in the Florida Times-Union at the time of our Member Forum last month.
And Melissa Ross interviews Sandy Cook about the study on First Coast Connects, May 15, 9-10 a.m., on WJCT, 89.9 FM. That interview coincides with the culmination of the Stronger Voices report. On that date, the printed executive summary and the extensive full report on our web site will be released.

Collaboration First Coast Girls Initiative |
WGA is a member of First Coast Girls Initiative, an organization of girl-serving agencies, and we encourage our grantees to be members. They benefit from working with their peers, and our grantmaking benefits from greater collaboration.
Our members, too, have opportunities to participate. FCGI’s annual Advocacy Awards, workshop and luncheon – Growing Great Girls in Today’s World -- is coming up May 4, 9:30 a.m. – 2 p.m. at the Wyndham Jacksonville Riverwalk Hotel. Best-selling author Rosalind Wiseman is the facilitator and keynote speaker. Go to fcgijax.org for more information and registration.

| Check your bookmarks |
The recent software upgrade provided by The Community Foundation for our web site, www.womensgivingalliance.org, may cause the need for resetting your bookmarks. Just delete the old one and make a new one for the WGA pages you use regularly. And if you haven’t been using that shortcut to get to our web site, you may want to add bookmarks for our home page and other pages you use frequently.
